Protection consortium: "Quality, certification and unique properties at the heart of our DOP"

The Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and Fraud Repression of agri-food products of the Mipaaf (ICQRF) has renewed the authorization, with Ministerial Decree, to CSQA to carry out controls for Tuscan Bread DOP for the next three years.

An excellence symbol of the rich basket of DOP IGP products of Tuscany , a region that boasts 89 protected products , of which 31 agri-food and 58 wine, and generates an economic value of 1,151 million euros , placing itself in fifth place among the Italian regions for economic impact (Ismea-Qualivita Report Data 2021).

Pane Toscano DOP, a historical element of the food and wine offer that has made Tuscany famous in the world, contributes to the certified regional production with 950,000 kg of DOP production which, thanks to the work of 90 operators , has generated a consumption value of 3.3 million euros (Ismea-Qualivita 2021 Report Data).

Officially recognized in 2020, the Consortium for the Protection of Tuscan Bread DOP pursues a project of protection and enhancement at three hundred and sixty degrees - from research and innovation projects on the product carried out with the Universities of Pisa and Florence, to the training of professionals in the large-scale distribution, up to the promotion in the various distribution channels including high-value ones such as Horeca and quality shops.

The decision to confirm again CSQA, the leading certification body in Italy in the field of Geographical Indications, is dictated by the desire to maintain a now consolidated relationship as stated by Daniele Pardini , Director of the Protection Consortium : "Maintaining this relationship allows the Consortium to operate, towards growth and the future, with unchanged trust."

“Our confirmation as a control body underlined Pietro Bonato, General Manager and CEO of CSQA – is the result of the synergistic work carried out in terms of guaranteeing and enhancing this excellence, symbol of the Tuscan culture and land. An ancient bread that maintains the same characteristics over time, with its chiaroscuro crust and compact, crumbly, porous crumb with a bland taste. We are therefore proud to continue on the path undertaken and of the renewed trust in CSQA in terms of valorising typical products".

Pane Toscano DOP confirms the value of the DOP IGP product portfolio certified by CSQA, which currently includes 70 Geographical Indications: a figure that underlines the desire to increasingly accompany the sustainable development of quality agri-food chains, a symbol of Made in Italy and the vocation of the territories .
