The pilot project involving the State Polygraphic Institute, the Protection Consortium, CSQA and the Qualivita Foundation was presented at Cibus Tec in Parma

Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI first among the great Italian Geographical Indications to start testing the Digital Passport, the agri-food traceability system created in collaboration with the State Poligrafico, Qualivita Foundation and supervised by CSQA Certificazioni. The presentation of this pilot project took place on 23 October in Parma, during Cibus Tec, as part of the "Trust your food & Aceto Balsamico di Modena" event, organized by the Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato, CSQA and the Qualivita Foundation. An initiative therefore, which puts the currently most innovative element in terms of tracking and tracing, anti-counterfeiting and fraud control at center stage.

This operation provides for the connection of the Digital Passport , with the free Trust yourFood® App, to verify the traceability data and activate further value-added services. The solution developed by Poligrafico for the agri-food sector provides for the integration of an anti-counterfeiting and traceability system and certified data, through innovative IT/information systems, by CSQA with the involvement of the entire supply chain.

This mark, which presents itself as a technological solution to defend quality and originality, will be personalized and in two formats, designed with sophisticated security printing elements, to be affixed to each bottle. In the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena case, it asked CSQA to develop a control plan that can provide guarantees on the traceability of the must raw material along the entire supply chain .

The initiative ranks among the most significant among those activated to promote traceability and the fight against counterfeiting, and in particular it is configured as a practice of excellence in the relationship between the public and private systems: an effective synergy that represents one of the pillars for protecting the cultural and productive heritage of our agri-food Made in Italy. The Digital Passport will also take on the characteristics of a valuable anti-counterfeiting weapon in the case of e-commerce, a channel through which an important part of fraud occurs.

Statements

Federico Desimoni - Director of the Protection Consortium
Protecting an excellence such as Balsamic Vinegar of Modena or the most exported Made in Italy agri-food product with Geographical Indication in the world is a duty because, being so widespread and famous, it is exposed to counterfeiting phenomena more than other products. To date, much has been done by the Consortium in synergy with Control Bodies and the police forces, so that such frauds are repressed. However, providing each bottle of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI with a sticker that certifies its originality and above all traceability, involving the consumer in an alliance aimed at protecting the authentic product, is a further step forward in the right direction”.

Paolo Aielli – IPZS managing director
Poligrafico is proud to contribute to the protection and safeguarding of the quality products that make our country, Italy, a reference in the world. The voluntary choice of the Protection Consortium to affix a safety mark makes each bottle of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena unique and non-replicable; all the Marks made by the Poligrafico make it possible to verify their authenticity through mechanisms similar to those used for banknotes.

Pietro Bonato – Director of CSQA
This is an innovative project that the consortium wanted to launch in collaboration with CSQA IPZS and the Qualivita Foundation. The goal is to enhance the GI control system through a dual system made up of the state polygraph stamps and the Trust yourFood® App. The marks are a tool for identifying the single bottle and at the same time an anti-counterfeiting tool by virtue of the intrinsic characteristics of the mark.
The integration of traditional control systems with new computer and information technologies represents an innovative frontier that aims to make controls increasingly efficient and allow immediate communication with the consumer.

Mauro Rosati – Director of the Qualivita Foundation
The Italian quality system, recognized throughout the world as one of the most advanced, takes another step forward with the Digital Passport of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP. It is not only a new way of protecting the product against counterfeiting, but also a different approach towards the consumer, where interactivity and information exchange take place in real time. As further confirmation of how the world of PDO PGI is a system based on tradition without ever losing sight of innovation.
