A packed lecture hall at the Department of Agriculture hosted the conference " The Bergamot of Reggio Calabria PGI. Back to the Future: From a History of Fragrances to the GI Economy ," organized by the Promotion Committee for the Bergamot of Reggio Calabria PGI and moderated by journalist and essayist Massimo Tigani Sava. After greetings from Giuseppe Marino, representing the Metropolitan City, who emphasized the importance of the Region's delegation of powers, numerous speakers provided a detailed overview of the state of the GI Economy, describing the economic, environmental, and social importance of Italian PGI, PDO, and TSG products and the innovative role of the "public functions" assigned to the Protection Consortia under the recent EU regulation on quality products, which came into force in May 2024.

Production regulations were discussed with Enrico Ligato, and certification and control plans were discussed with agronomist Gaetano Mercadante of CSQA certifications. Various economic, tourism, technical, social, and environmental aspects, as well as cooperation, were explored in depth with Antonino Sgrò, representing the agronomists; Liliana Cirillo, representing the agricultural experts; Giuseppe Colosi, representing the agricultural technicians; Romina Leotta, representing Anpa Calabria-Liberi Agricoltori; and Giuseppe Arone, provincial vice president of Copagri.
