Declining production and rising consumer value. The Bresaola della Valtellina PGI sector thus closed 2025, confirming its resilience in a complex economic environment characterized by rising production costs, raw material supply difficulties, and growing tensions in international trade. Despite the decline in production, the sector also saw a significant acceleration in exports, especially to non-European markets.
This is according to data released by the Bresaola della Valtellina Consortium. The 13 companies certified by the CSQA inspection body produced 11,947 tons of product in 2025, a 5.47% decrease compared to 2024. This decline, however, did not prevent the sector from increasing its economic value, which rose to €502 million, up 4.6% compared to 2024. This result demonstrates the solidity of one of the most representative agri-food excellences of the province of Sondrio and the entire Lombardy region, capable of maintaining its competitiveness even during a period characterized by profound market transformations.
Exports were the main driver of growth . In 2025, 836 tons of Bresaola della Valtellina PGI were exported, a 32.34% increase over the previous year. The largest share continues to go to European Union countries, which account for 64% of total exports and recorded a 17% growth.
