Blue credits in the Vicenza area are entering the international debate on sustainable water management. The European LIFE Svolta Blu project, coordinated by Viacqua and FITT, an industrial group based in Sandrigo, will participate in the EuroMediterranean Water Forum in Rome on September 30th to present the system tested in the area.
The model recognizes and promotes interventions capable of producing measurable and lasting benefits for water resources . Actions may involve saving and reusing water, reducing withdrawals, or contributing to groundwater recharge. When the results are verifiable, the interventions can generate credits to be traded in the experimental local market developed by the project.
LIFE Svolta Blu began in 2024 and will continue until January 2028. The partnership, which includes Viacqua, Anbi Veneto, the Alta Pianura Veneta Land Reclamation Consortium, the Palazzo Festari Foundation, CSQA Certificazioni, and the University of Padua , aims to achieve annual savings of two million cubic meters of water in the post-completion phase. The project has already opened up water credit testing to Vicenza-based companies.
FITT will contribute to the Forum with the experience it has gained in its own production processes. The process includes calculating and verifying the water footprint according to the ISO 14046 standard , identifying efficiency measures, and providing concrete proof of the exchange system. The Sandrigo-based company thus becomes a case study on the role the manufacturing sector can play in protecting this resource.
