CSQA certifies Bali sea salt and Java coconut sugar
With CSQA, the Italian PDO PGI model lands in Indonesia for the development of quality agri-food within the EU project "Arise+ Indonesia"

CSQA certified the first two Indonesian Geographical Indications , the result of "Arise+ Indonesia", the international trade support project at the heart of the cooperation framework between the EU and the Asian country. After a training mission in Italy to learn about the widespread Italian model of agri-food PDO PGI, the project closes its first important operational step.

Representing Indonesia among the world PDO PGIs will be two iconic products of the largest archipelagic state in the world, Garam Amed Bali/Bunga Garam Amed Bali PDO sea salt and Kulonprogo Coconut Sugar coconut sugar .

Garam Amed Bali (salt) and Bunga Garam Amed Bali (flower of salt) are sea salts harvested by hand and produced using traditional methods for over 700 years in the Amed region on the island of Bali. They are famous among haute cuisine chefs, in particular, for the salty flavor that is easily lost without the bitter aftertaste of common salt and the ability to crumble easily in the mouth. Its production is supported by a supply chain of 20 operators who have been carrying on the product of excellence for generations. On 14 October 2022, the PDO was officially registered at EU level, concluding the steps for entering the market as certified production.

Kulonprogo Coconut Sugar is a coconut sugar which is famous for its special taste and aroma due to the natural environment, soil and climate of the Kulon Progo area. The result of a supply chain made up of 13 harvesting companies, 283 agricultural operators and 4 packers with an estimated production of 200,000 kg, it is characterized by its yellowish brown colour, smooth consistency, high melting point and unique aroma and sweetness compared to other types of coconut sugar. Once the declaration of conformity has been received and the control plan established by CSQA, this product is awaiting the conclusion of the process of inclusion in the European PDO PGI register.
