The Modica PGI Chocolate Protection Consortium extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Anna Chiara Isidori, who on June 23, 2026, received her PhD from the School of Advanced Studies of the University of Camerino, as part of the Doctoral Program in Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology, Law and Governance curriculum.
The research, titled " The Application of Blockchain Technology in the Agri-Food Sector. A Case for Geographical Indications ," developed under the supervision of Professor Pamela Lattanzi and as part of the program coordinated by Professor Flavio Corradini, analyzes the role of blockchain technologies in the management, protection, and promotion of agri-food Geographical Indications.
Among the case studies explored in the thesis is Modica PGI Chocolate, with a broad analysis of the Consortium's experience in adopting the Digital Passport and blockchain technologies to strengthen product traceability, transparency, and protection against counterfeiting.
The study recognizes how the path undertaken by the Consortium, in collaboration with the State Printing Office, ORIGIN, the Qualivita Foundation, and CSQA , represents a concrete example of integrating technological innovation and production tradition, highlighting the value of new technologies in supporting the governance of Geographical Indications and strengthening the relationship of trust between producers and consumers.
