The LIFE Svolta Blu project (LIFE23-GIC-IT-Life SVOLTA BLU), launched in October 2024 with a planned duration of 40 months and a budget of over €2 million, represents a concrete response to the growing water vulnerability of the Vicenza area. Coordinated by Viacqua, the project relies on a multidisciplinary partnership consisting of ANBI Veneto, the Alta Pianura Veneta Land Reclamation Consortium, the Palazzo Festari Foundation (Intesa Programmatica d'Area Alto Vicentino), the University of Padua with its ICEA (Civil, Building and Environmental Engineering) and TESAF (Territory and Agro-Forestry Systems) departments, and CSQA.
The goal is to develop and test an innovative approach to raise awareness among businesses and citizens about sustainable water management and to concretely and effectively reward water saving, restoration, and conservation measures. The project intends to develop a credit system where water users (industrial, agricultural, and domestic) can voluntarily contribute to the efficient management of water resources. Inspired by the carbon credit model, the project aims to implement a "blue credit" system where those who reduce their water footprint can collaborate with those who invest in water conservation and protection initiatives, ensuring fairness, transparency, and cost-effectiveness.
