BRCGS ETHICAL TRADE STANDARDS AND RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

WHAT IS THAT

BRCGS has developed two useful tools for assessing and certifying the management of social responsibility within organizations.

The tools, born from the awareness that the market requires more and more products and services consistent with the principles of ethical trade, aim to offer retailers and consumers tools capable of guaranteeing respect for the rights of the workers who contributed to the creation of the good or service.

The tools, applicable to all types of organizations, both production and service, regardless of size, are as follows:

  • ETRS - ETHICAL TRADE AND RESPONSIBLE SOURCING GLOBAL STANDARD: is the BRC certifiable international standard which defines the requirements of a system for managing social responsibility. This standard is "stand-alone", but can be easily integrated with any other BRC standards.

  • ETRS RISK ASSESSMENT is a non-certifiable score checklist that allows you to conduct an ethical risk assessment and take appropriate measures to limit the risk.

CSQA is the first Italian certification body partner of BRC for the certification and inspection of ETRS and ETRS RISK ASSESSMENT.

KEY POINTS

ETHICAL TRADE AND RESPONSIBLE SOURCING STANDARD

The standard provides for an assessment of compliance with the requirements which involves, in addition to the personnel, also the physical areas of the production plant, the operating systems and the internal procedures of the organization by the certification body. Obtaining certification allows suppliers to demonstrate that the products and/or services they sell are produced ethically and that they source raw materials in a socially responsible manner.

ETRS RISK ASSESSMENT

The purpose of the risk assessment module is to provide a framework that helps sites measure their performance against the five 'vital signs' of ethical trading and responsible sourcing (ETRS).
Although the risk assessment is based on the ETRS standard, the two audits are markedly different and there is no link between them.

ETRS Risk Assessment evaluates "vital sign" indicators based on:

  • the commitment of top management,
  • the rules on health and safety in the workplace,
  • the governance of the organization and respect for human rights.
Risk assessment can be performed simultaneously with BRC standards by the same auditor, qualified for both schemes.

ADVANTAGES

Applying the ETRS standard offers many benefits, including:

  • Possibility of obtaining a certification under the "hat" of BRC

  • Ability to demonstrate that products are sourced from socially responsible organizations

  • Possibility to request integrated audits
