Geographical Indications: PDO / PGI / TSG
CSQA’s long-standing and widely recognized commitment to “Made in Italy” and the European market is reflected in the numerous PDO / PGI / TSG products under our control.
The PDO / PGI / TSG quality schemes were established under European Union legislation and require producers to comply with standards applicable throughout the European Union.
EU legislation protects traditional products and promotes the distinctive characteristics of agri-food products, with the aim of strengthening the link between products and their geographical origin.
Responsibility for verifying compliance with the Product Specifications of Italian Geographical Indications lies with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (MASAF), particularly through the Central Inspectorate for Quality Protection and Fraud Prevention of Agri-food Products (ICQRF), one of Europe’s leading authorities responsible for agri-food controls.
MASAF relies on designated public control authorities and authorized private control bodies – such as CSQA – to carry out these activities. For each Geographical Indication (GI), MASAF formally assigns control responsibilities through a Ministerial Decree.
CSQA carries out its control activities in accordance with the requirements established in the relevant Product Specifications, applying a Control Plan Document (DPC) approved by MASAF.
