The draft decree containing interventions for the agri-food chain of PDO PGI products on the "Fund for the development and support of agricultural, fishing and aquaculture supply chains”.
The provision , for a total amount of 25 million euros, identifies the methods and criteria for the distribution of the fund identified to finance the national and international promotion activities of Geographical Indications.
“The measure constitutes an important tool to encourage the promotion of our products, driving the economy of entire agricultural supply chains, both in the internal market and from an export point of view. Today, thanks also to the work carried out in our offices and by the Regions, we strengthen our Geographical Indications, known throughout the world as synonymous with excellence, we enhance the potential of our Nation and we encourage our exports. The objective is to develop trade exchanges even further and obtain increasingly important results" , said the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida.
The 168 legally recognized PDO and PGI protection consortia in the agri-food sector can benefit from the intervention.
Among the objectives indicated by the decree:
- the increase in the marketing of PDO-PGI agri-food products,
- better communication about their origin, characteristics and quality,
- the development of the sustainability of production processes
- the increase in the representativeness of the Consortia.
