Biodiversity Friend is a European environmental certification that, on a voluntary basis and through scientific aids, allows companies to evaluate the impact of their activity on biodiversity and, more generally, their sustainability in agriculture .
Thanks to a new project presented in partnership between the Institut Agricole Régional, Coldiretti Valle d'Aosta, CSQA , the Mont-Avic Natural Park, Cave Mont-Blanc de Morgex et La Sulle and the municipality of Nus, the certification could be calibrated and modified on a regional scale and therefore adapted to the specificities of our territory.
"The criteria underlying this initiative are generic for all of Europe and therefore do not take into account the particular agricultural and agri-food conditions of the Aosta Valley, calibrated on livestock and mountain pastures as well as on crops alone - explains Denise Chabloz , one of the project managers and a Neuve town councilor -. We would thus like to go into greater depth on that part of floristic biodiversity that will allow us to quantify on meadows and pastures, much larger surfaces than just the orchards and vineyards on which the documentation is grafted".
More specifically, the pilot areas for scientific studies will be the Saint-Barthélemy Valley, some areas of the Mont-Avic Park, the Cave Mont-Blanc vineyards and further areas of the Institut Agricole still being defined.
