The National Quality System for Animal Welfare (Sqnba) will standardize animal welfare certifications. This is a final step forward, requiring companies that have already adopted one of the various available voluntary certification systems to adapt by the end of the year.
At the same time, farmers wishing to access Level 2 of the CAP Ecoscheme 1 to document the animal welfare of their livestock will have to use the new system.
In this profoundly changing regulatory, economic, and technical context, which will have direct implications for farmers' management decisions, Confagricoltura organized a webinar on July 14, 2025, to illustrate the new system's content and concrete impacts to industry professionals and technicians.
The meeting was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, the Ministry of Health, Accredia (Italian accreditation body), and CSQA (Center for Agri-food Certification and Quality).
During the webinar , the extension of the deadline initially set for August 11 for submitting the certification for the award was confirmed , then postponed to August 25, 2025 and finally set to September 30 .
Giuseppe Blasi, head of the Masaf department, emphasized: "It's important for breeders to know that the application isn't automatic. It must be submitted to the certification body, and meeting the deadlines is crucial."
