In the background remain the duties announced by China on European dairy products, which have little impact on Grana Padano: the Chinese market is in fact marginal.

Good news for the Grana Padano Consortium ( at a time when the dairy sector is receiving bad news from China with the introduction of new tariffs , which, however, do not cause particular concern for the Consortium ). Torre Pallavicina (Bergamo) is in fact the first Grana Padano PDO dairy to have officially obtained authorization to use the Made Green in Italy logo , the national scheme promoted by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security that certifies the environmental performance of Italian products based on scientific and verifiable criteria.

This is an important step for a supply chain that , numbers in hand (141 consortium companies, over 5.6 million wheels produced in 2024 and a gross marketable production approaching 4 billion euros, with exports now worth more than half of the total), represents one of the cornerstones of the Italian agri-food sector . And this result is not achieved by chance . Behind it is in fact a structured, shared and far from predictable effort , built over time by combining production skills and scientific research . The process, we recall, was developed with the contribution of the Polytechnic University of Milan , the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and Enersem , a company specializing in the environmental analysis of agri-food systems, with certification issued by CSQA , a nationally and internationally accredited body.

But what does it actually mean to obtain authorization to use the Made Green in Italy logo ? It means demonstrating , with numbers in hand, that a product like Grana Padano can measure its environmental impact throughout the entire supply chain and work to reduce it . It means moving from generic declarations on sustainability to a detailed analysis of how it is produced , how much energy is consumed , how resources are managed , and what improvements are possible . It is, essentially, a process that makes environmental commitment visible and verifiable , and which, in the case of a certified PDO , adds an additional level of transparency without calling into question the specifications .
