The first package of Pistacchio di Raffadali DOP has been inaugurated, equipped with the new Digital Passport, offering the opportunity to directly experience how the integrated QR code works.
This system will allow consumers to ascertain the authenticity and safety of the product, verify its traceability and reconstruct its history. The official confirmation was made on 7 April 2025, in Agrigento, when the new Digital Passport intended for products with protected designation of origin and the control plan specifically developed for the “Pistacchio di Raffadali DOP” were presented.
The technical presentation was entrusted to Greta Ferro , Account Manager of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato. Her illustration focused on the sophisticated technical and IT security features that form the basis of the Digital Passport, a system based on QR code technology. The secure “Digital Passport” is designed to guarantee authenticity and identity, comparable to a small banknote produced by the Poligrafico using advanced security design and printing technologies, which include the use of watermarked paper, security graphics, guilloche, fibrils and special inks. Each Digital Passport is equipped with a unique coding system, a crucial element to ensure the traceability and tracking of each individual package along the entire production chain, while supporting verification and control activities. Now information, data and characteristics that certify the uniqueness of a certified product will be easily accessible by simply scanning the Digital Passport with a smartphone.
The initiative, promoted by the Consortium for the Protection of Pistachio di Raffadali DOP , saw significant participation from local institutions. The first package of Pistachio di Raffadali DOP equipped with the “Digital Passport” was created by the Diodoros concessionaire, Calogero Frenda, who is also president of the Consortium. A safe, personalized and unique tool, integrated with a digital system of specific information.
