The Valtellina PGI Apple is a fruit of excellence linked to the mountainous territory of Valtellina (province of Sondrio), characterized by unique soil and climate conditions that give the product high-level organoleptic qualities. The European Protected Geographical Indication brand certifies the origin, uniqueness, and inseparable link between the apple and its territory.
The Valtellina PGI apple is one of Italy's most representative fruit and vegetable specialties, the result of a perfect balance between nature and agricultural culture.
Grown on the sunny slopes of Valtellina, this apple is distinguished by its crunchiness, natural aroma, and sweet flavor, characteristics developed thanks to the altitude of the apple orchards (between 200 and 900 m above sea level) and the integrated and organic production techniques adopted by local farmers.
The production area includes approximately 60 municipalities in the province of Sondrio and concerns the main apple varieties such as Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Gala.
Production takes place according to integrated or organic production techniques, with specific agronomic practices oriented towards environmental sustainability and the health of the fruit .
The trees are planted in rows with adequate spacing to ensure optimal ventilation and light; pruning, irrigation, and fruit thinning are managed to maximize the quality, yield, and shelf life of the product.
