
An average of 61 cents per liter in 2025. Between June and July, it peaked at 70 cents , before falling back to 63 cents per liter around mid-August. This is the farmgate price of raw milk quoted by the Verona Chamber of Commerce, which serves as a benchmark for all of Italy. A golden age for farmers—thousands of them still exist in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia—who finally see a fair return on their product, after years, at least until 2021-2022, when a liter of milk fetched a maximum of 30 to 35 cents , 70% to 80% less than today.
A decline in imports from Germany and Eastern Europe, a smaller number of farms, cost rationalization, and improved negotiations with large-scale retailers are the main reasons why milk prices have risen , reaching unprecedented levels today.
And Veneto is among the top four Italian regions for milk production , contributing approximately 9% of national deliveries. More than 50% of this product is used to make PDO cheeses , from the most famous Grana Padano and Asiago to Casatella Trevigiana PDO , which, according to CSQA (Center for Agri-Food Certification and Quality), accounts for just 0.2% of the milk produced in the region.
In detail , 34.9% of the milk is used for Grana Padano DOP , 11.5% for Asiago DOP , 2.3% for Provolone Valpadana DOP , 1.8% for Montasio DOP , 1.6% for Piave DOP , 1.5% for Asiago DOP d'Allevo, 0.8% for Monte Veronese DOP , 0.4% for Taleggio DOP , 0.2% for Casatella and 45.1% for dozens of other lesser-known varieties.
