Organisations that comply with the requirements of the FSSC development programme have the added benefit of being listed on the FSSC website , which increases transparency and security throughout the food supply chain.
The integration of the development program into supplier assurance programs further supports larger food organizations in contributing to the food safety of their PMI suppliers.
Following extensive multilateral input, including a global survey in 2024, the Programme was updated in May 2025 for the following main reasons:
- Extend the scope of the Programme to include Category I: Packaging.
- Adjust the duration of the conformity assessment to better suit smaller organizations.
- Provide enhanced support to participating SMEs through guidance documents, training and webinars.
- Increase awareness and visibility of the Program.
- Strengthen acceptance of the Program among specific organizations and large buyers.
Conformity assessments against version 1.1 are possible until 31 May 2026.
Major changes in version 2.0 of the program
- Move to a single compliance level aligned with the current Level 2 of version 1.1
- Implementation of a comprehensive HACCP system aligned with ISO 22000 , including critical control points (CCPs) and operational prerequisite programs (OPRPs)
- Moving from a question-based to a requirement-based document structure
- Elimination of duplication and clarification of documentation requirements
